A Platform For Latest Information on Cultural Events in Xiamen

In the first stage of research, the problem statement is articulated as follows:
“How might we make a busy white-collar interested in cultural events address the problem of scattered, outdated and irrelevant information, so that she/he can effectively get a comprehensive update on local cultural activities and plan her/his trip accordingly.”

Currently, the information about cultural events in Xiamen is scattered on the websites and official accounts of different venues. As a result, when people try to find out what events are coming up, they have to check each website separately, which is time-consuming. Meanwhile, the organizers of cultural events have limited channels to disseminate information. Posting event information only on one’s own website or official account can reach a limited audience. Therefore, the core goal of this website is to integrate information about all cultural events in Xiamen and allow users to access this information on one website. At the same time, it provides a channel for event organizers to publish information. In addition to basic information about the events, previous user research also revealed that many audiences have the habit of purchasing event merchandise. The event organizers are also willing to display related merchandise information on this website.

Given the discussion above, the tentative business model of the website is as follows: the incorporated cultural event information would serve as a hook to attract users. Meanwhile, the website will provide premium services where users can subscribe to receive discounts on certain events and merchandise (other benefits will be confirmed later). Moreover, once with sufficient traffic, the website can collaborate with organizations that sell merchandise and assist them in publishing product information for commissions.
