Final Assignment: Wish You a Merry Christmas~
As this is my last semester in the whole MSc program, I could say this is the most challenging class I’ve taken throughout the whole program yet the most fruitful one as the purpose of my applying for this master’s degree is to learn practical skills that could be useful for my career. As a part-time student, I have to struggle between work and study, and the problem sets and the assignments were quite demanding. But after I have finished each assignment, I keep reviewing my work as I gained huge satisfaction by looking at the results. I also showed my work to my family and friends, and they are also amazed.
I have spent a lot of time on the website and one of the tasks that took me most of the time is to change the code that can apply to different software and platforms. For example, I drafted the HTML and CSS code in Visual Live Studio that could be seen on GitHub, then I have to include the Python code and make it visual on Jupyter Notebook (to change the URL for reference). After that, I have to upload the whole site to Pythonanywhere. Each platform has its own application, and it took me a lot of time and I encountered tons of error messages. Moreover, I also struggled when integrating the database and login function to my website. I encountered many errors. I have to redo again and again until I found where the bug is. I want to thank for all the resources provided by Bernard, YouTube tutorials and forum during the process. When an error pops up, I google the error message and there are so many people willing to share their experience and code and let me know where the bug is.
Furthermore, the biggest takeaway of the assignments is that I have trained to think like a product manager throughout the whole design process. When in school, when you come up an idea, all you need to do is try to execute it. However, in real life or in commercial world, you will need to go through different thinking process and testings before implementation as the project may involve money or other resources. Therefore, to make the product successful, these testings are required to let you identify mistakes or better way to do it. This is my first time doing A/B testings, usability tests, journey map etc. I think all these would be useful when I plan my project in the future.
Besides, when editing my work, I have to be very careful when dealing with codes, as missing a space or tab matters a lot while I am a very careless person, I have full respect towards all the programmers that their hard work created all the user-friendly web pages and functions that we are using to make our life easier.
