No-code/Low-code: the Spreadsheet Revolution Replayed?

The no-code/low-code movement, which has captured the attention of the venture investment community in recent years, can be viewed as the reincarnation of the spreadsheet movement  more than a few decades ago. Both events share the same objective of empowering knowledge workers, turning them from users to makers. Deep down, they reflect the needs of business users to gain control over information and data tools without reliance on the availability of supports from IT specialists, which are often found to be slow in response.

However, what separates the two is the cloud computing infrastructure with its almost universal browser interface, which makes adoption easier. In addition, the mature collaborative features built into these tools make design, prototyping, and testing of no-code/low-code applications more efficient and manageable.

Lastly, the digital disruption and transformation mandate embraced by management as a necessity to survive and compete amid the COVID pandemic also needs better tools for quick turnaround results in structuring new workflows caused by the social distancing challenges.

In short, the timing is perfect for no-code/low-code tools. The space is promising and will surely prosper in the near future.
