爲食貓 for Mainland Students Missing Their Hometown Food

Based on the user research conducted in the first stage of the investigation, the problem statement is defined as follows: “How might we make mainland students in Hong Kong address the problem of eating home-styled food conveniently and affordably to achieve the goal of satisfying their culinary needs while balancing study time.”

Currently, I notice that a great number of mainland students studying in Hong Kong will buy their hometown-styled prepackaged food from mainland China. It usually takes them more than 2 weeks to receive the delivery while costing them extra money since they need to rely on collectorate courier services (集運). Meanwhile, food companies are always looking for platforms to promote their prepackaged food, which is a relatively new idea in China. This platform can combine the need and supply sides effectively.

Thus, the proposed solution will focus on the development of a community (paid subscription-based) platform that serves to connect mainland students studying in Hong Kong with mainland prepackaged food manufacturers/companies. The “hook” is the free home-styled recipes to attract student users. While this platform earns money from making membership fees and the profits from acting as the middleman. The membership system can provide users with more discounts, including free delivery fees, and home delivery when up to 300HKD. This can save their time and money on the purchase.
