Enjoy the process of designing prototypes and user testing
Based on the user research conducted in the first stage of the investigation, the problem statement is defined as follows: “How might we make a full-time master’s student who enjoys visiting museums and exhibitions after school (who) address the problem of getting complete and clear information (what) to achieve the goal of finding the exhibition of interest faster and easier and have a better visiting experience (why)?”
Currently, online information about exhibitions and museums in Hong Kong is disorganized, incomplete, and scattered. The persona must spend a lot of time going to various platforms to gather information and filter it on demand. Therefore, the proposed solution would focus on creating a platform for collecting information about museums and exhibitions in Hong Kong and offer a membership system to help full-time master’s students who love to visit exhibitions save time on information searching and have a better experience. This platform would provide users with more information and options.
When I started to group and classify the cards, I asked several personas for suggestions. Finally, I decided to use the most straightforward and understandable way to describe and organize them. The user test results later proved that this was the right choice. When I designed my wireframes, I thought more about the page structure and functional layout than the aesthetics, so the wireframes looked very simple, which affected the user’s feelings when doing the task to some extent. And I found a difference between the designer’s and the user’s view of the product, and the views of different users are also different. Some designs that I think are great may have better alternatives in the eyes of the user. This also made me realize the importance of listening to users and putting myself in their shoes.
I invited a few representative participants to do a usability test. The process of testing and post-testing communication gave me a clearer and more comprehensive understanding of the site’s strengths and weaknesses. I summarized and analyzed the test content and results. The participants think that my website pages are simple and clear, smooth to use, but still need improvement in appearance design and functionality, which gave me a clear direction to promote my project further.
