Learn how to find target persona and do user research
I am rather fond of literary things and have always wanted to visit museums and exhibitions in Hong Kong in my free time, but I have not found a relatively professional and comprehensive platform to showcase all the famous museums and latest exhibition information in Hong Kong, most information is scattered and incomplete. I want a comprehensive platform to display all museum and exhibition-related information in Hong Kong so I can find the exhibitions I am interested in faster and more efficiently.
So I considered this a theme and selected master students who, like me, want to visit exhibitions after school to find out if they have the same pain points and needs as me. I designed a series of questions and found six master’s students to interview. In sorting through the results of the interviews, I discovered that each student had a different personality and purpose for visiting the exhibition. I chose students passionate about museums and exhibitions as my target personas. They tend to pay more attention to the content and quality of the exhibitions than the price they need to spend, so they are the biggest potential consumers. Although, as students, they have no income and have to rely on the pocket money given by their parents, so the price range they can accept is limited. In addition, they will be more willing to actively look for exhibition information, have a greater need for a comprehensive website with complete and accurate information, and have a more obvious intention to use the website for a long time.
Combining what I learned in class and the user information I obtained, I drew a journey map and a story map to understand my website’s features and content. Based on this, I tried to scrap some sample data. I found that the information from the existing data sources was scattered and cluttered, not very conducive to general use, and the subsequent manual searching and organizing required could be a heavy task.
Regarding how to obtain resources to ensure the operation’s sustainability, all I can think of now is to cooperate with the government and museums for information sharing and financial support. I’m not sure if it is practically feasible. You can get a brief introduction and overview of prospects on this topic by clicking here.
